Exodus 34:14 Observation: Moses makes two new stone tablets. Don’t accept other gods. There is only one true God. God is jealous for our worship; he is not jealous of us. That would be weird to be jealous of his creation. He has a jealous love for us. He wants our fully devoted attention. He hates it when we put other silly unimportant things in front of him. He calls himself “Jealous”, therefore, this is a very serious topic to him. Application: We need to realize how much God loves us and wants our attention. This is not a bad thing. Don’t you want the attention of those you love? Prayer: Spend time in prayer asking God to help you get rid of distractions so you can love and worship him with everything that you have. This is the very last psalm and verse of the entire book. Everything that has breath should praise; all creation. A great variety of instruments is used in this psalm. Praise does not equate music, but music is often a form of praise since it’s very easy to do corporately. Application: Remember that music is not the only form of praise and worship. Try to appreciate other styles or instrumentation of worship as represented in this psalm. Prayer: Ask God to help you praise the Lord no matter what! Ask him to help you obey this command. Worship the Lord with gladness; Observation: Joyful songs; worship doesn’t have to sound like a funeral dirge but can be celebratory and happy! Joy doesn’t always mean happy though but can be worshiping through trials. However, this verse says gladness and joy so we can conclude that is probably happy worship. This entire psalm is a psalm of grateful praise! Application: We can be filled with joy because he made us, and we are his. We have so many reasons to be glad while we worship and give gratitude for all he has done. Prayer: Pray and worship in a tone of gladness and joy today. Even if you are going through a hard time, do your best to praise and give thanks. Click here to view all resources for the Worship SOAP Bible Study.

Paul is the writer of Romans. It’s a letter to the believers in Rome. Paul reminds the reader that we need to remind ourselves of this truth. It's not for our neighbors, so we should stop passing judgment and focus on how God’s Word should be applied to our own lives. Application: Will you worship willingly or be forced to worship? Do you think of others and their obedience to God or your own? Prayer: Spend time in prayer and worship asking God to bring you humbly before him. Ask for forgiveness for the times that you judge others instead of reflecting on your own actions. Click here to view all resources for the Worship SOAP Bible Study.

They are doing the acts of worship but not from their heart. This does not make Jesus happy. “In vain” means without success or result. The Pharisees were very knowledgeable about the law, religious acts, and rituals. They were more focused on keeping the law than doing it honestly. Application: We should only worship if it’s from the heart. Don’t go through the motions if you don’t mean them; it’s a waste of time. Prayer: Ask God to help you come before him honestly in worship and worship with your whole heart when you do. Ask him to forgive you for the times you just went through the motions.
