Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts." Colossians 3:16 Observation: Admonish means to caution, advise, counsel against something, to scold. Admonish doesn’t give a right to scold according to worship preferences though. The rest of this chapter tells us to be kind and an example of Christ. The message of Christ is one of grace and mercy. Remember this as you teach and admonish those around you. The hymns that Paul mentions is not a prophecy of the future songs that we call hymns. The book of psalms consists of a variety of styles. Styles doesn’t refer to musical style necessarily, but the message and tone of the psalm. Sing with gratitude. Application: How do you teach and admonish others? With the message of Christ and the way Christ would? Scolding and gratitude can’t live together. Prayer: Ask God to help you be his messenger of grace as you seek to admonish others towards following him. Repent and ask for forgiveness for any times you have been graceless and without gratitude. Ask God to let nothing hinder your worship of him. Click here to view all resources for the Worship SOAP Bible Study.
