"For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile." Romans 1:16 I am always encouraged by the story of Paul. His conversion story shows that anyone can change, better yet, God can change anyone. He went from a legalistic zealot who persecuted Christians to a man zealous for Christ, writing 13 New Testament books, and suffering for Christ himself. He gave everything he had to follow after Christ and bring this truth to Jews and Gentiles alike. I love how in Romans 1:16, Paul says that he is not ashamed of the Gospel. He will proclaim it to all who will hear! This bold statement comes before a series of verses where he calls out those in sin. He doesn't mince words, but says it like it is. He probably offended some of his listeners, but nevertheless, said what he believed with confidence. Today, we live in a world that wants us to tiptoe around the truth of God and from God. We're made to feel guilty about having a moral compass and sticking with the truth from the Bible. We're de-sensitized each day to think maybe we're wrong or maybe some verses in the Bible don't really mean what they say. My challenge and encouragement to you as we read through Romans is to ask yourself: What do I believe? Is the entire Bible true? Do I believe the Gospel of Jesus Christ? Are you afraid to speak the Truth? Why? The Gospel story is beautiful. Jesus Christ who would come to us, fully God and fully man, to be crucified on a cross, and then in three days, to raise again. Conquering death. Conquering sin. To fulfill each prophecy that came before. Soak in that truth. Repeat it to yourself daily. Remind yourself of this amazing Gospel, and don't be ashamed!
